A Writer with Fear in His Heart

I have a deep-seated fear of attaining personal success.

Ah, how good it feels to admit that out loud. As I sit here writing, I talk to the Universe, you see. I literally just said, "I have a deep-seated fear of attaining personal success." And admitting that reality, well wow, somehow it's not quite so deep-seated anymore.

My personal fear of my success comes from a very real knowledge of my potential. I think it's the same potential that exists in every human being, that potential for greatness, that ability to tap into the Source of All-Knowledge that I can only call the God of my Own Understanding. As a member of this species, we are unique in our ability to see a goal in mind, plan out the steps to reach it, and then start walking down that Path.

Tonight I really wanted to sit here and write about some breakthroughs I had meditating (I saw my own face on a cat-like biped and we...well, I guess we danced together across a field of pulsars and quasars. It was magical).

But the music I've chosen to accompany my click-clacking on the keyboard today has stolen the show.

Today the most interesting thing happened.

As I was walking back from my car to my parents' front door, I stumbled a bit and lodged some gravel in the lining of my shoes. That, in itself, isn't all that interesting, but I reached down, pulled out the largest rock and then proceeded to use it to "flick" out the smaller rocks from the sole of my shoes.

When I flicked the last small rock, a miracle occurred.  I don't know how else to explain what happened except I launched the rock in just the right velocity so that a blade of grass in the yard "caught" the rock. It landed right on top of it and STAYED. From my perspective, a man playing Center Field for the Atlanta Braves would have been jealous at the skill to which this piece of grass caught this rock.
